Zine Title: Oh Boy
Issue #: 1
Date Published: 1990
Notes: This was the first QL cover I ever did, aptly appearing on Oh Boy #1. It was also one of the first QL pieces I ever did. In fact, the titles were all 'peel off' variety, because it began life as a standalone Sam and Al portrait.

Zine Title: Oh Boy
Issue #: 2
Date Published: 1991
Notes: This cover was actually double the work, consisting of a front and back illustration. The zine was spiral bound, but did not deter from the 'wrap-around' effect. Note the clock going backwards, the random calendar pages, and the 'leap' happening within the hourglass. Boy was I creative back then! ;)

Zine Title: Oh Boy
Issue #: 3
Date Published: 1992
Notes: This cover was based on one of my fave glossy photos. It began as a pen and ink rendition of that as a standalone piece of artwork. Later I added the clock, years, swirling stars, and titling for a cover-ish effect.

Zine Title: Oh Boy
Issue #: 4
Date Published: 1993
Notes: The sub-title of this zine was "Love & Glory". It was a huge super-novel written by Sharon Wisdom, Sandy Hall, and myself. I also did all the illustrations for it...40-something individual pieces and this cover. It deserves an entire section all to itself! (see "Oh Boy" Illustrations, OB4: "Love & Glory")

Zine Title: Oh Boy
Issue #: 5
Date Published: 1994
Notes: I thought people might be getting tired of my 'trademark' starry backgrounds, so for this cover I used 2 stock shots and a non-starry background. I dressed it up by having Al's hat and Sam's hair extend slightly from the frame. Hmmm, I still think it looks like Sam has 'an Al' growing out the back of his head! :)

Zine Title: Oh Boy
Issue #: 6
Date Published: 1995
Notes: This cover was a quickie made from 4 existing illos: the 'photo frames' of Young Sam, and Sam & Tom, came from Oh Boy 4. The Young Al frame was also part of another Al illo. The only new piece is the 'buddies' shot at the bottom, which was never published in a zine as a full page. (see the 'Unpublished' section.) The photo frames and the 3-D lines in the background were done on a computer: the first and last time I ever used a computer to generate part of an illustration. I believe this was the last piece of QL art I did before retiring.

Zine Title: Quantum Mechanics
Issue #: 2
Date Published: 1993
Notes: This was just a standard 'big Sam'/'little Al' cover...with my infamous starry background. The hardest thing to draw in this illustration was undoubtedly Al's tie!

Zine Title: Quantum Mechanics
Issue #: 3
Date Published: 1995
Notes: I was trying to be creative here with a sillhouetted Sam profile on a subdued clockface with a 'negative' leap effect background, and still maintain portraits of both characters on the front.

Zine Title: Beyond the Mirror
Issue #: Anthology
Date Published: 1995
Notes: No starry background this time, just a huge 'leap effect' centered on Sam. Mmmm, Admiral Al in dress whites...need I say more? :) Always a joy to draw. I was so obsessed that I even tracked down Al's uniform ribbons: those depicted here are absolutely correct military spec! ;)

Zine Title: Cross Streams
Issue #: 3
Date Published: 1995
Notes: Giving up on ever trying to make a departure from my 'trademark' starry backgrounds, here I hid said starry background within the border, and used a double 'lens flare' in the top left corner to detract from it. Hehehe...

Zine Title: Heart Leaps
Issue #: Anthology
Date Published: 1995
Notes: Border arrows and a bullseye background are reflective of the relationship leaps found this romantic anthology.

Zine Title: The Return
Issue #: Novella
Date Published: 1995
Notes: The author of this zine had very specific ideas on what she wanted on the cover: the characters overlooking a 3-D chess board, with The Star of David in the background. Of course, I had to add my own starry background to that...along with the chess pieces. Can you guess which represents who?

Zine Title: Best of Two Worlds
Issue #: Novella
Date Published: 1990
Notes: The triangle on this cover is representative of the 'love-triangle' plot (Sam and Al fall for the same woman). The clock face again represents 'time' (set pre-leap), and the expressions on Sam and Al's faces is (hopefully) an indication of the conflict of the two within! Although the original cover illo is a full 8.5" X 11" in size, this novella was publish at half that (folded and stapled), and the cover reduced accordingly.
